Brian Ange (Assistant Trainer)

Brian Ange Born: April 11, 1967 in Bernalillo, New Mexico
Resident: Palm City, FL

Background:
  • Grew up in New Mexico and was introduced to the racetrack by family members who were horseracing fans.


  • Racing background:
  • In 1982, Ange took his first job at age 16 working with Quarter Horses in Santa Fe and Albuquerque, New Mexico.
  • In 1987, he moved to New York and worked as a groom for trainers Johnny Campo, Sr., Tom Bush, and D. Wayne Lukas.
  • He later moved to Lexington and began breaking yearlings for Nelson Bunker Hunt at his Bluegrass Farm.
  • He landed a job as an assistant trainer for Dick Lundy and the powerful Allen Paulson Stable, working with such outstanding champions as Cigar, Opening Verse, Eliza, and Blushing John.
  • In 1997, he took an assistant's job with Patrick Byrne and helped develop champions Countess Diana, Awesome Again, and Horse of the Year Favorite Trick.
  • In 1999, Ange briefly trained on his own and saw immediate success with the stakes winning filly Badwizium.
  • In 2000, he returned to an assistant's job with John Kimmel and later Christophe Clement, managing strings in New Jersey and Florida.
  • In 2005, Ange joined EH Racing and currently supervises the training operation on the east coast.



  • Jake Vinci (Assistant Trainer)

    Jake Vinci Born: Oct. 23, 1946 in Santa Rosa, CA
    Resident: Monrovia, CA
    Family: wife, Candace

    Background:
  • Father was a medic in WWII and then owned medical lab in Oregon. He owned horses in Detroit before and after the war. Mother was a schoolteacher in California before the family moved to Florida. Vinci eventually started selling workhorses in the mid-west, later working with Standard Breds, and finally taking a job with Thoroughbreds at Turf Paradise.


  • Racing background:
  • Throughout much of the 1990's, Vinci worked as head foreman to trainer Bob Baffert when the stable was beginning its ascent into Thoroughbred racing, working with such popular horses as Thirty Slews, Letthebighossroll, Batroyale, Cavonnier, and Viva El Capitan.
  • In 2001, he joined Eoin Harty and the Godolphin operation working with the juveniles in Dubai before shipping them to America for their two-year-old campaigns.
  • Vinci helped developed highly regarded two-year-olds Tempera, Imperial Gesture, Essence Of Dubai, Ibn al Haitham, Tizdubai, Ruler's Court and Lydgate.
  • Vinci is currently an assistant at EH Racing's Santa Anita division.



  • Alex Elliott (Assistant Trainer)

    Alex Elliott Born: July 09, Bishop Auckland, Co Durham, England
    Resident: Temple City, California
    Family: One sister, Georgina

    Background:
  • Father, a lawyer who owned and trained National Hunt horses in north of England. Mother also a lawyer who's family owned number of top flat horses in 70's. Aunt, Gill Richardson, is currently one of leading agents in Europe.
  • Attended Oundle School, Peterbrough.


  • Racing background:
  • From an early age worked for father exercising and trading steeplechase horses.
  • 2003: Joined top national hunt trainer Philip Hobb's as groom.
  • 2004: Appointed assistant trainer and aided in the conditioning of champions Flagship Uberalles, Rooster Booster and Detroit City.
  • 2006: Accepted into Darley Flying Start. Educated in all aspects of the thoroughbred industry whilst travelling to Ireland, England, America, Australia, New Zealand and Dubai. Worked closely with top individuals and companies including Gainsborough, Godolphin and Sir Michael Stoute.
  • 2008: Joined Sir Michael Stoute and was fortunate to be involved with such horses as Conduit, Ask, Tartan Bearer, Spanish Moon and Allegretto.
  • 2008: Takes up offer to join Christophe Clement and works closely with top performers including, Gio Ponti, Rutherienne, Funny Moon, In Summation and Miss World.
  • 2009: Joined EH Racing's West Coast division as assistant trainer.
